Our Story

Celebrating Local Farmers

At Lowcountry Fresh Market & Café we start our search for the freshest, tastiest vegetables and fruits right around the corner on the Sea Islands of South Carolina where families have been farming the rich Lowcountry soil for over 150 years. Local farmers were the inspiration and the reason we opened our doors for the purpose of expanding their business opportunities. Lowcountry Fresh is the proud partner of many farmers across the Lowcountry and throughout the region.

Cultivating Community

Our Three-Fold Mission

We opened in 2021 with the purpose of helping local farmers and this three-part mission to support our local community:

1) Be a source of new business and opportunities for our suppliers.

2) Be a place where our team members can fully use their talents and grow into new careers while building a solid financial foundation for the future.

3) Offer our customers fresh, locally-grown, high-quality products, and become your go-to source for the “good stuff” when grocery shopping and dining.

Farmer Partners

Our Farmer Partners

At Lowcountry Fresh Market & Café we start our search for the freshest, tastiest vegetables and fruits right around the corner on the Sea Islands of South Carolina where families have been farming the rich Lowcountry soil for over 150 years. Lowcountry Fresh is the proud partner of many farmers across the Lowcountry and throughout the region.

Our seafood comes off the boats in nearby waters where deep sea fishing vessels can bring delicious cold water fish straight from the ocean to our market. And of course no self-respecting Lowcountry kitchen would serve anything but the sweet local shrimp, crabs and oysters so we bring those fresh from the docks to you.

Experience the community!

About Us

Our Story

At Lowcountry Fresh Market, Café & Bakery the freshest, tastiest products grown, harvested or made within 250 miles are available seven days a week from the friendliest team around. Our experienced chefs and bakers turn local foods, organic flours and the finest ingredients into a food experience voted best new restaurant in Bluffton in 2021 by the readers of Hilton Head Monthly, and awarded Lowcountry’s Best medals in five categories by our community!

We wanted to use this next chapter to help provide economic opportunities to those who, for whatever reason, had not yet experienced them.

We were introduced to a group of Gullah Farmers for St. Helena Island, just north of Bluffton. These farmers had incredible land that could be farmed year round but were only farming a small portion because they lacked the channels to sell more of their products. They were slowly losing their land because they simply couldn’t afford to keep it.

So, we decided to open a market for them to sell their products. Our hope was that they could expand the use of their land, improve their financial fortunes, and entice the upcoming generations to stay in the family business. And we soon learned that South Carolina and the region is filled with amazing growers, fishermen, and makers offering products we knew our community would love. That’s how Lowcountry Fresh was born!
